All work test

This is the old name for the Personal Capability Assessment. The name was changed in 2000.

 
Claimant

This term refers to people claiming, or attempting to claim, benefits.

 
Commissioner

If you appeal to a tribunal about a benefits decision but are unsuccessful, you may be able to take your appeal on to the next stage by appealing to the Social Security Commissioners. Their decisions are binding on tribunals. You can find out more about the Commissioners and their work from their website at www.osscsc.gov.uk.

 
Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)

This is the name for what used to be called the Department of Social Security / Benefits Agency. The Office for Disability Issues is the focal point within government to coordinate disability policy across all departments.
